Sittingbourne Commemorates WWI centenary

Date;   11th November 2014

A commemorative stone commissioned by Swale Borough Council and installed by B.W.May was unveiled at Sittingbourne war memorial today, dedicated to Col Donald Dean VC in the presence of his family.

Donald Dean was the longest surviving World War One recipient of a Victoria Cross and was a Sittingbourne resident his entire life. Having lied about his age to enlist at the outbreak of the first world war, he was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1918 for bravery and devotion to duty whilst serving in France.

Going on to serve his country again in World War Two, Dean returned to Sittingbourne where he lived until his death in 1985 aged 88. This is just the first of many projects for Sittingbourne, twinned with Ypres in Belgium, planned for the centenery.

B.W.May were pleased to work with Swale Borough Council on this project which included repairs to and cleaning of the war memorial, installation of the new stone and moving of the old memorial flower beds.

The works were completed on time and to a tight deadline and we apologise for any disruption caused during the works.

Development of affordable homes for Sanctuary Group

Date; 29th July 2014

B.W.May & Son Ltd have completed the first of two new developments for our clients Sanctuary Group. The development at Hadlow, Kent consists of 2 no. two bedroom and 1 no. three bedroom homes.

The properties were built with several energy saving measures including air tightness and the use of a Mechanical Ventilation & Heat Recovery System (MVHR). These together with other design features gave the properties an overall ‘B’ rating for energy efficiency.

The site was also awarded a Certificate Beyond Compliance by the Considerate Constructors Scheme and the Secured By Design accreditation by Kent Police.

B W May are happy to hand over the first of these homes to Sanctuary Group and are now looking forward to our second development handing over in September.

B.W.May score Considerate Constructors hat-trick>

Date; 19th June 2014

First up our site in Cowper Road, Sittingbourne achieved a certificate of compliance upon their second site inspection and Shane and his team were praised for their overall improvements since the first visit given the limited size of the site.

Secondly our site at The Paddock, Hadlow scored a certificate beyond compliance on their first and only inspection. Fred and his team have yet again shown they take pride in their projects and run their sites to the highest standards.

Last but not least, our newest site at Westfields, Pluckley has been inspected for the first time and has already reached a level of compliance and we have no doubt that this score will only rise with improvements leading to the second inspection.

B.W.May proud to support Murston Community Bank

Date; 21st January 2014B.W.May proud to support Murston Community Bank

As part of the ongoing development at Cowper Road, Sittingbourne of affordable homes for Sanctuary Housing Group, B.W.May are proud to announce a gift to the nearby All Saints Church as part of our community outreach.

All Saints have today launched the first community bank based in a church as part of the Diocese of Canterbury’s partnership with Kent Savers launched last year. The bank run by volunteers and partners will provide savings accounts and money advice to local people.

Our joinery workshop designed, constructed and installed a brand new bank counter to match the existing panels in the church. The counter is designed for ease of manoeuvrability to be fully utilised in the vestry when the bank is not in operation. Along with the counter, we also provided a new set of bookshelves for the church.
